Sir Ian Anstruther (1922 - 2007), author of eight non-fiction books, lived his life in the service of the arts, and support of young people.

A quiet philanthropist, he was much changed by the loss of his older brother Fagus, who died aged fifteen.  Fagus was born with hydrocephalus, a condition that went undiagnosed.  An early fall rendered him blind, and his family, unable to feel capable of caring for him, sent him to a home where he later suffered a second, fatal fall.

Together with his wife, Susan, Ian founded The Fagus Anstruther Memorial Trust in memory of the lost potential of that young life, dedicating the trust to helping young lives thrive where his brother couldn’t.
